Protective Life Corporation Establishes Ellis Porch III Endowed Scholarship
Protective Life Corporation has made a gift to the University of Alabama’s “Our Students. Our Future.” campaign to establish the Ellis Porch III Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship is named in honor of Porch, who was a senior business systems analyst for Protective Life Corporation at the time of his tragic death on March 6, 2007.
Awarded to students enrolled in the management information sciences program at the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration, priority will be given to students who demonstrate high moral character, a strong work ethic, and leadership characteristics. The traits mirror those of Porch, an outstanding 2001 alumnus of UA’s MIS program.
Following graduation, Porch joined Protective Life in the underwriting and information systems area of the company’s life and annuity division. An elite athlete, he was ranked first in his age group for Alabama distance runners and was a competitive world-class athlete on a national level in half and full marathons.
“We are so grateful to Protective Life Corporation for this contribution,” said J. Barry Mason, dean of the Culverhouse College of Commerce. “Ellis Porch was an esteemed graduate of our College and this is a fitting and meaningful way to remember his contributions to the College, the University, Protective Life and to his community.”
Protective Life Corporation and its subsidiaries provide financial security through insurance and investment products to individuals and families across the United States. Life insurance products are marketed through their Life and Annuity Division and West Coast Life Division and under the banners of three companies: Protective Life Insurance Company, West Coast Life Insurance Company and Protective Life and Annuity Insurance Company.
